How Do I @ Tag an Account in My Posts?
⚠️ For this feature to work properly, click on the "Customize for each profile" button under the text box before adding your tags.
Social Media Handles
When you tag an account in your social media posts, you need to use their social media handle.
As a business, if you're lucky, you can have the same handle across all your social media channels. Many times, the handle you want is no longer available to use (someone else took it before you did).
The handle you are using for X (Twitter) may not work for Facebook, and the handle you would use for Facebook may not work for Instagram – and so on.
For example, let's say you want to tag our official SocialBee social media accounts:
- Our Instagram handle is: @SocialBeeTeam (you'll have to use this handle in your Instagram post)
- Our Facebook handle is: SocialBee.io (you'll have to use this handle in your Facebook post)
- Our X (Twitter) handle is: @SocialBeeHQ (you'll have to use this handle in your X post)
A lot of brands have this discrepancy in their handles across different platforms, so be wary of this when you mention other accounts. This is why we recommend creating social variations for each platform if you want the tag/ mention to work properly everywhere.
Finding social media handles
There are usually two ways to find an account's handle:
- Check out the profile URL in your Browser. This applies to X (Twitter), Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
- Go to the account you're looking to tag and check right under its name for a @handle. This applies to X (Twitter) and Facebook.
- Go to SocialBee's editor, type in a few letters of the @handle and wait for suggestions.
1. Tagging a X (Twitter) Account
For X (Twitter), after 2023's API changes, you're able to tag an account only if you're posting directly from SocialBee, not if you post via your own app or reminders. More on X (Twitter) posting here.
Go to the X (Twitter) account you want to tag to find out their @handle.
Once you have the @handle ready, go to SocialBee to create your post.
Select your X (Twitter) profile in SocialBee, prepare your post, and paste the account's @handle in your caption.
Schedule / save the post to be published.
If you check your post inside the Content Category, you'll see the @handle has turned blue (if the account exists) and you'll be able to click on it to check if that's the right profile you want to tag.
2. Tagging a Facebook Page
Go to the Facebook Page you want to tag to find out their @handle
Once you have the @handle ready, go to SocialBee to create your post.
Select your Facebook Page/ Profile/ Group in SocialBee, prepare your post, and paste the account's @handle in your caption.
Schedule / save the post to be published.
If you check your post inside the Content Category, you'll see the @handle has turned blue (if the account exists) and you'll be able to click on it to check if that's the right profile you want to tag.
Tagging a Facebook Page without a @handle
- Some Facebook Pages don't have a @handle set up, so if you want to tag a page and cannot find the handle, look at the Facebook URL in your Browser.
- For example, for SocialBee's Facebook Page, it looks something like this: https://facebook.com/socialbeeio-1234567891234567/.
- See those numbers at the end of the link? If a page doesn't have a @handle, those numbers can be used as an identifier
- Page those numbers in your SocialBee post and add @ in front of them, e.g., @1234567891234568,as shown below:
3. Tagging a LinkedIn Company Page or Company's followers
For LinkedIn, you're able to tag your company's followers and other companies. Here's how to do that:
Go to the LinkedIn Company Page you want to tag to find out their @handle.
Once you have the @handle ready, go to SocialBee to create your post.
Select your LinkedIn Profile/ Page in SocialBee, prepare your post, and paste the account's @handle in your caption. Alternatively, you can use the profile URL to tag the account.
- Add "@" in your post editor
- Paste the profile URL next to @
- For example, for SocialBee, I'd be adding @ and then, https://www.linkedin.com/company/socialbee.io/ next to it.
Schedule / save the post to be published.
If you check your post inside the Content Category, you'll see the @handle has turned blue (if the account exists) and you'll be able to click on it to check if that's the right profile you want to tag.
4. Tagging an Instagram Profile
Go to the Instagram Profile you want to tag to find out their @handle.
Once you have the @handle ready, go to SocialBee to create your post.
Select your Instagram Profile and start preparing your post.
Click on the "Tag" icon of your image to be able to introduce the @handle. You can tag up to 20 users in an image.
Click anywhere on your image to add the tag, then save it.
Go back to your Content Category to see the tag icon on your photo. Clicking on the "Tag" icon allows you to preview the tags on the full version of the image.
5. Mentioning an Instagram Profile
Go to the Instagram profile you want to tag to find out their @handle.
Once you have the @handle ready, go to SocialBee to create your post.
Select your Instagram account (this has to be a Business account) in SocialBee, prepare your post, and paste the account's @handle (Business or personal) in your caption.
Schedule / save the post to be published.
If you check your post inside the Content Category, you'll NOT see the @handle turned blue – as this is not yet supported for 3rd parties.
FAQs
Can I tag Pinterest, TikTok, Google Business Profile, or YouTube accounts from SocialBee?
At the moment, we do not support tagging those social profiles via SocialBee. We recommend you schedule the content via SocialBee and then edit the post to contain the tag. We're constantly checking each social platform's official API for updates on tagging such accounts via 3rd parties like us.
Can I tag a video from my YouTube channel when I schedule a Short?
No. This is a feature that has not been made available to 3rd parties scheduling tools like us via YouTube's official API.
