How Do I Add RSS Feeds in SocialBee?

IN THIS ARTICLE

RSS allows platforms like SocialBee to know when you published a new blog post on your website → and automatically add the URL of the blog in a social media post in SocialBee.

To import an RSS Feed, you will need to first identify the RSS Feed on the website that you would like to share content from.

1. Define your RSS

Go to SocialBee → Content → RSS, and click on “Add RSS”. In the pop-up that shows up, you'll define your RSS.

1

Select the social media profiles that you want to assign the content to.

2

Paste your RSS link (don't forget to click on “Fetch” to preview it).

3

Select the Content Category where the content will be added. Based on your Category settings, the posts will be added either to the top or bottom of your Category.

4

Appending text to your posts means that the same text (in the example below “via SocialBee”) will be added to all posts and all your profiles like a signature. Keep in mind that, because tagging other profiles with account @handles works differently for distinct social media networks, it might not work for all your profiles.

5

If you want the posts to be automatically shared, keep the “Approved” toggle as it is. If not, switch it to “Drafts”.

2. Advanced Settings

Some advanced settings are available to all users, regardless of the plan you're on.

All Advanced settings are available to Accelerate, Pro or higher plans ( learn more about our plans).

  • Text of the post: This allows you to choose between three options:
    • RSS Post Title, which will import the title of the article as a caption.
    • RSS Post Description, which will import the description of the article as a caption.
    • No text, only Link Preview, which will only generate the link preview for the article.

  • Expire after it was published ___ times: Archive posts after they've been published a number of times. This means that your posts will remain in the Content Category until that limit is reached.
  • Expire after ___ days: Choose to set your posts to expire after a number of days. Your posts will be archived from your Content Category once that time passes, even if they were never shared. This is great for news articles.
  • Don't shorten the links: If you don't want your Content Category's short link settings to be applied to RSS posts, just tick this box and links will be added normally.
  • Trim text for Twitter: Trimming your text for Twitter is checked by default and allows us to shorten the text, so it is suitable for Twitter sharing. We’ll trim from the title of the post, and keep the Appended Text and URL intact.
  • Add as image, if possible: This feature finds the main image from the link and adds it on its own to your post, without the link preview. The main image will be the one set as an OG:Image in your HTML, or the main large image we can find. Keep in mind that this feature will not work if you select any Facebook Profile. On the other hand, this is the default setting for Pinterest and Instagram posts.

3. Preview your posts

After you click on “Fetch” in your Define RSS tab, you'll notice that a preview will be generated to the right.

The most recent 3 articles of your RSS feed will be previewed in this section.

The preview indicates you the way the post will look like once shared on your profiles.

To see the way the post will look like across different profiles: Go to the top-right corner of the screen, click on the drop-down menu, and select the profile you want to preview your posts for.

4. “Create and import” your posts

By default, when you first add an RSS Feed, we will choose to fetch the latest 10 posts in this RSS feed.

However, if you click on the drop-down arrow, you will be able to see up to 3 options:

  • Create and import 1 article
  • Create and import 10 articles (selected by default)
  • Create and import # articles (up to 100, if the RSS feed has more).

Once an RSS Feed is added, we look for new posts every hour, so don’t worry if new posts don’t show up yet.

If the article doesn't have a featured image, or it doesn't generate a link preview, it will be added as not approved. Otherwise, the article will be added as approved (if you check this setting).

5. Edit, refresh, or pause your RSS

If you want to make any changes to your RSS, just go to SocialBee → Content → RSS, and click on “Edit RSS”

Here, you can make any changes you want to the feed, and they will be applied to all articles going forward.

Exception: One exception is when you want to add or remove profiles. When you do this, a new checkbox will appear next to “Update”.

If you mark this, all the current posts previously created by this RSS Feed will be updated to match your current profile setup.

6. Delete your RSS

To delete any of your feeds, click on the bin icon in the top-right corner.

This will generate a pop-up to double-check if this is the feed you want to delete. Keep in mind that once you delete any previously imported posts, they're gone forever.

FAQ

Why was my RSS Feed paused?
Some common causes for this could be:
  • The website is down;
  • The website suddenly has some issues with their RSS;
  • The RSS feed no longer exists;
  • The website no longer exists;
  • The RSS link has been changed.

If our platform fails to gather data after 3 consecutive tries, your RSS feed will be paused. If the issue has been fixed, you can activate it from your RSS Feeds menu by clicking "Resume RSS".
