How to post to all social media at once (cross-posting guide)

Posting to all social media networks at once can save time, but only if you do it properly.

In this guide, you’ll learn how to cross-post across different social media platforms and how to use SocialBee to publish and customize your posts from one place.

Is there a way to post on multiple social media platforms at once?

Yes, there is a way to post on different platforms, but you need a social media management tool.

Without one, posting on multiple channels means doing it manually on each one. You have to open each app (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, etc.), create the post, and publish it separately. There’s no built-in feature across platforms that lets you publish everywhere at once.

With a social media management platform like SocialBee, you can create one post, select all your social accounts, and publish or schedule them at the same time. You can also customize each version so it fits the platform instead of sharing the exact same post everywhere.

Is social media cross-posting bad for performance?

Cross-posting isn’t bad. In many cases, it’s necessary.

If you have something important to share, like a launch, an announcement, or a major update, you should post it everywhere. That’s the whole point. You want to reach a broader audience, regardless of where they follow you. It’s not just an easier way to fill your social media calendar.

Where it starts to hurt is when everything gets treated like that.

If every post is duplicated across social media sites, a few things happen. Your cross-posting strategy starts to feel repetitive, especially for people who follow you in more than one place. And more importantly, the format doesn’t always fit on multiple platforms. A post built for Facebook might feel too long or cluttered on Instagram, while an Instagram-style post might feel out of place on LinkedIn.

How to post to multiple social platforms at once

If you want to post on multiple platforms without repeating the same work, you need a way to create the post once and publish it everywhere in one go.

Here’s how to cross-post on social media with SocialBee:

  • Connect your social media profiles to SocialBee by following these steps

  • Click “Create post” at the top of your SocialBee dashboard.
  • Select multiple social media accounts from the left sidebar.
  • Turn on “Customize each” so you can tailor the post for every platform. Adjust each version by editing things like hashtags, links, formatting, mentions, collaborators, and location tags.

  • Choose your post type (for example, Feed post, Story, or Reel, where supported).

  • Write your caption or click the “AI” icon to generate text and images.

  • Upload media (photos, videos, GIFs) or import visuals from Canva, Unsplash, or GIPHY.

  • Edit your visuals by cropping, resizing, or flipping them to fit each platform.

  • If you’re posting a video, upload or select a custom thumbnail from the preview.

  • Add alt text to images to improve accessibility.

  • Mention profiles by typing “@” followed by the username, and tag Pages where needed.

  • Click “1st comment” to schedule a first comment to go live with your post.

  • Add the post to a category to keep your content organized by themes or topics.

  • Choose how to publish your content:
    • Select “Post now” to publish immediately
    • Or choose “Post at a specific time” to schedule posts in advance (with suggested optimal times)
    • Optionally enable “Re-queue after posting” or “Expire post” for better content control.

  • Set the post status to “This is approved” or leave it as “This is a draft.”
  • Click “Create post” and SocialBee will publish your content across all selected platforms.

What type of content should you cross-post on multiple platforms, and how often?

Cross-posting isn’t something you should do by default. It works best when the content is important enough to be seen everywhere.

A good rule of thumb is to cross-post the same content once every 4–5 posts, not more. If you’re posting daily, that usually means 1–2 cross-posts per week max

The types of content that are worth cross-posting are:

  • Announcements (product launches, feature updates, rebrands)
  • Promotions and campaigns (sales, offers, limited-time launches)
  • Major updates (partnerships, milestones, hiring news)
  • Educational posts (tips, frameworks, insights that apply anywhere)
  • High-performing posts (content that already worked well)
  • Evergreen content (advice that stays relevant over time)
  • Event-related posts (webinars, launches, deadlines)

How should you edit a post when cross-posting on social?

When cross-posting on social media across various platforms, you should keep the same core message, make small adjustments to how the post is formatted and presented, and do it because each platform displays and prioritizes content differently, which directly affects how people see and engage with it.

Before you share a post across multiple social media platforms, do the following:

  • Check if the caption stays within each platform’s character limits so it doesn’t get cut off or truncated.
  • Adjust links based on whether they are clickable on that platform, and if not, remove them and direct people to your “link in bio.”
  • Verify that your image or video uses the correct aspect ratio and size so it doesn’t get cropped, stretched, or look out of place.
  • Review hashtags based on how each platform uses them, since they may not be clickable or commonly used everywhere, and adjust both the number and type to match what performs better.
  • Tag other accounts so they get notified, can engage with the post, and potentially reshare it.
  • Add a location tag when the platform supports it to increase discoverability in that area.
  • Add collaborators when available so the post is shared with their target audience as well.
  • Set a custom thumbnail for videos where possible so you control how the post appears in the feed.
  • Add alt text to images (where supported) to improve accessibility and provide context.
  • Preview the post before publishing to catch formatting, cropping, or layout issues.

Social media cross-posting best practices

We already covered three of the most important best practices: cross-post only high-value content, limit how often you do it to avoid repetition, and make small adjustments so each post fits the format and features of the platform.

Beyond that, here are a few additional social media cross-posting best practices to keep in mind:

  • Be strategic about social media scheduling. Set your posts to publish when your audience is most active on each platform to maximize reach and engagement.
  • Track your social media analytics. Monitor which posts perform well and use that as a signal for what’s worth sharing across platforms. Stop guessing what works for your social media strategy.
  • Skip posts that won't travel well. Don’t share posts that rely on a specific format, trend, or audience behavior, since they often feel out of place and underperform on other platforms.
  • Customize to cross-post effectively. If a post could perform better in a different format on another platform, adapt it instead of sharing it as-is, so you don’t lose potential reach or engagement, for example, turning an Instagram carousel into a short video for TikTok.
