How Do I Customize My Post for Each Social Platform?

Why should I customize my posts?

If you want to keep your content fresh and personalized across your social media profiles, these features are for you.

Each social platform has its own character limits and tone preferences. Sometimes, due to platform limitations, you won't be able to share the same content across all your accounts.

Frequently used customizations:

  • Replace a link preview with an image for Instagram
  • Add hashtags to only a few platforms
  • Adjust caption length based on character limit
  • Pin a post to a Pinterest board, along the title and source
  • Add a CTA link for your Google Business Profile post
  • Add a video title on YouTube
  • Select the destination of your post (Feed, Reel, and Story)

The main benefit of customization:

  • You keep all those versions grouped under ONLY ONE post
  • You no longer have 5 or more separate posts for each social media platform.

How to customize your posts for different social platforms

In SocialBee, you can customize your posts in 2 ways:

  1. Customize on your own using the "Customize for each profile" feature.
  2. Customize with AI using the "Customize each caption" feature.

How to edit the customized captions

Once you've customized your posts, you can manually edit each caption to match your preferred tone of voice or length.

If you used AI to customize your captions, you can also:

1. Undo the AI-customized caption to revert to the original one.

2. Regenerate your caption with AI using the original text.

Customize a Post VS Post Variations

  • Post customization is best when you want a post to be tailored to specific social media platforms.
  • Post variations are best when you have one topic you want to present in different ways (learn more here).

In the example below, you have 3 Post Variations, each variation having content customized for 4 social media profiles. We'll share Variation #1 first, then other posts you have in your Category, then Variation #2 and #3.

Troubleshooting: Having to create a post for each social media platform

Some users notice that they need to create a separate post for each social platform, even though previously, one post was automatically shared across all selected profiles.

This usually happens when the post enters customization mode automatically.

Certain platforms like TikTok, Pinterest, and YouTube have different content requirements (such as titles, media formats, or privacy settings). When these profiles are selected, SocialBee may automatically switch the post into customization mode. You’ll know this has happened because you’ll see a pop-up (see screenshot below).

To solve the issue and use the same caption and media across all platforms, you can do one of the following:

  • Option 1: Add your content before selecting profiles
  • Option 2: Re-select profiles while in customization mode

Option 1: Add your content before selecting profiles

  1. Open the Post Editor by clicking “Create Post” at the top of your SocialBee dashboard, and DO NOT select any profiles yet.
  2. Add your caption and media first.
  3. After that, select the social media profiles you want to post on.

Your content will now automatically apply to all selected profiles.

Option 2: Re-select profiles while in customization mode

  1. If you are already in customization mode and have created content for only one profile, deselect the profiles that do not yet have content.
  2. Select those profiles again.

When you re-select them, the current caption and media will automatically be applied to the newly selected profiles.
